TikTok’s back online for Americans after a short outage.
The popular video app shut down Saturday following the Supreme Court’s unanimous Jan. 17 ruling that ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese owner, must sell the platform or face a U.S. ban over national security worries.
Even though incoming President Trump promised to bring TikTok back right after taking office Monday and pause the ban with an executive order, the app came back to life Sunday.
“In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service,” TikTok announced on X. “We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive.”
Before TikTok came back online, users flooded X with their hot takes, memes, and complaints about losing their favorite app.
