Beanie Sigel’s spilling tea about Jay-Z allegedly penning verses for Memphis Bleek back in Roc-A-Fella’s prime.
During his chat with The Art of Dialogue, when asked if Hov wrote for Bleek, Sigel dropped some truth bombs that might upset Bleek’s fans. The Philly rapper says Jay had to write for Bleek, especially on Roc classics like “4 Da Fam” and “You, Me, Him, and Her,” since he couldn’t keep up with his labelmates.
“Of course, Jay helped Bleek out on a lot of shit,” Beans revealed. “I mean you can hear it. ‘Y’all dudes don’t get it, come with it / Fifth loaded with slugs that’ll / Rest in your fitted / It’s M dot E-M, the Roc..’ just pay attention. He always cheated for Bleek. He had to cheat for Bleek especially when us three was on a record together.”
He added, “If I ain’t right there with Jay, I’m not too far behind him. C’mon man. Bleek never stood a chance. That’s my brother, Bleek know. We were doing the Dynasty album, and every record that we were all supposed to have on it always was just me and Jay on a verse.”
Sigel explained that during The Dynasty: Roc-La-Familia sessions, they’d record tracks with just him and Jay. Then a few weeks later, Bleek would somehow pop up on those same songs, which made Sigel suspicious since he wasn’t around for Jay and Bleek’s studio time.
Beans figured Bleek got “a little assistance” and an “alley-oop,” though he made it clear Jay didn’t write everything for him – just most of it.
Dame Dash backed this up during his own Art of Dialogue interview. He said he got why Bleek stayed loyal to Jay, considering all the writing help he got, and said Bleek’s success was tied to Jay’s – if Jay went down, so would Bleek.
Bleek shut down the rumors real quick when a fan asked about Dame’s claims, responding: “He wilding right now bro.”
Jay-Z, Beanie Sigel, and Memphis Bleek were the powerhouse trio that helped take Roc-A-Fella Records from the late ’90s to the top in the early 2000s. They all showed up and showed out, especially when beefing with other crews and rappers like The LOX and Nas.
