Doechii Says She Has ‘Nothing to Lose’ After Old Video Shows Her Getting Fired in 2020

A newly surfaced video shows how losing her job set Doechii on the path to Grammy glory.

Following her first Grammy win on Sunday, fans rediscovered a YouTube clip from January 2020 where Doechii talks about getting fired.

“So, I got fired today,” the Alligator Bites Never Heal artist shared while snacking. “I don’t give a fuck, to be honest. Either way, I’ma be straight.”

She went on: “Tomorrow, I’m just going to go to a whole bunch of studios and ask if they have any internships open. And also just ask questions, like, I don’t fucking know.”

After saying she’d try any label willing to listen, Doechii mentioned she had “nothing to lose.”

“I have no place, I have no job, I have no children I have—who gives a fuck? Who cares? Who fucking cares?” she declared. “I’m just gonna do it and let you know how that goes.”

Just two years after dropping her first projects – Coven Music Session, Vol. 1, Oh the Places You’ll Go, and the Bra-Less EP – Doechii landed a deal with Top Dawg.

Her gamble clearly paid off – her newest mixtape snagged Best Rap Album at the 67th Grammy Awards. She also lit up the stage with a Broadway-style mashup of “Catfish” and “Denial Is a River” during the show.

When accepting her Grammy, Doechii shared some powerful words for young Black women watching.

“I know that there is some Black girl out there, so many Black women out there that are watching me right now and I want to tell you that you can do it,” she said. “Anything is possible. Don’t allow anybody to project any stereotypes on you, that tell you [that] you can’t be here, that you’re too dark, or that you’re not smart enough or too dramatic or too loud. You are exactly who you need to be.”
