Kendrick Lamar Takes Swipe at Drake While Performing at Super Bowl: ‘You Know They Love to Sue’

At the Super Bowl halftime show, Kendrick Lamar stirred up more drama in the ongoing Drake vs UMG battle.

K-Dot playfully started his famous diss track “Not Like Us” before stopping to tell the crowd, “I want to perform their favorite song, but you know they love to sue” – a clear shot at Drake’s recent legal battle with UMG. Drake’s lawsuit claims the label’s been spreading lies, harassing him, and playing dirty with the song’s promotion.

But Lamar couldn’t resist giving the fans what they wanted and dropped the track anyway. He locked eyes with the camera, grinning as he delivered the spicy line “Say Drake, I heard you like ’em young” though he skipped the p-word on live TV.

Before the show, Drake’s lawyers spoke up through New York Times culture writer Joe Coscarelli, stating “UMG is masquerading as a champion of artistic freedom by calling its actions merely ‘entertainment’, but there is nothing entertaining about pedophilia or child abuse in the real world.”

The statement continued, “We are confident that the evidence we will ultimately present at trial, including information we’ve already learned and continue to receive since filing the lawsuit, will expose UMG’s gross prioritization of its own corporate profits and executive bonuses over its exclusively signed artists’ well-being and the truth.”

The Super Bowl’s massive influence was on full display, pulling in a whopping 60+ million viewers for its 2024 broadcast.

While Kendrick was making waves stateside, Drake was busy down under, rocking stages on his Anita Max Win tour in Australia. He missed both Lamar’s Grammy domination and his Super Bowl spotlight moment. You can bet these halftime antics will pop up when everyone hits the courtroom.
