Christy Carlson Romano says she’s “grateful” to have survived after an unexpected shooting accident left her with facial injuries.
The star, known for her roles in Even Stevens and Kim Possible, took to Instagram on Saturday to reveal the shocking incident and display her wounds.
“Yesterday was my husband’s birthday and I took him to shoot clay pigeons as a present,” Romano, 40, wrote in her caption. “There was another party with us and they unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face.”
Jumping into action, her spouse Brendan Rooney quickly got her emergency care and she was immediately taken to the hospital.
The actress revealed she was hit in five different spots, with one pellet nearly striking her right eye, missing by just under an inch.
While doctors managed to treat most of her wounds, Romano mentioned that one piece stayed stuck behind her eyes – doctors said getting it out would be “too risky” right now.
“With everything that happened, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive. I love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much. I saw my life flash before my eyes and I’m telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant,” the former Disney Channel star shared.
She expressed deep appreciation for the “amazing, superhero-like” emergency team and St. David’s South Hospital in Austin, Texas who took care of her.
“But [I] got to say I got shot in the face and lived to tell the tale. Be grateful for every day,” Romano stated in her video.
