Karla Sofia Gascón was under the influence while attending the 97th Academy Awards.
The Emilia Pérez actress, who was nominated for Best Actress at this year’s event, compensated for what she missed in Oscars gift bag treats, including a THC drink. Days after drinking it and coming down from the high at the 2025 Oscars, Gascón recounted the experience on her Instagram Stories, translated from Spanish to English.
The 52-year-old, who has been at the center of controversy due to resurfaced past tweets, shared her story, stating that “it’s important to laugh at ourselves.”
Gascón described receiving a gift bag that included a bag of chips and a lemon-flavored drink, the latter of which had a strong effect on her.
“Suddenly I start to feel dizzy and I think it is tiredness, I go to bed, but I notice that the intensity rises and I start to worry, I call a friend to tell him to be alert in case something happens to me,” the actress wrote.
“The situation does not improve and I start to take some candy because my blood pressure drops and I have a strange feeling. I move as I can and say ‘Let’s see if something I have eaten has made me sick,’ I check the composition of the bag of chips – nothing, of the can of soda and….”
An accompanying photo displayed a logo on the drink can that read “MG THC.” Gascón reflected on the experience, saying, “I laugh now even though I still have vertigo, but I did get scared.” She added, “Good thing my daughter didn’t take it to school. Anyway, the rest of the gifts very nice, thank you.”
Although Gascón didn’t win Best Actress at the ceremony on Sunday (March 2), she showed good sportsmanship by congratulating her Emilia Pérez co-star Zoe Saldaña on her Best Supporting Actress win, as well as Clément Ducol and Camille for winning Best Original Song with El Mal from the film.
During the opening monologue, Oscars host Conan O’Brien joked that if Gascón tweeted about the Oscars, she should refer to him as Jimmy Kimmel—a request she happily fulfilled.
