Hilaria Baldwin Reveals Alec Baldwin Contemplated ‘Kill Himself’ Following ‘Rust’ Tragedy

Hilaria Baldwin, Alec Baldwin’s wife, reveals the actor considered suicide after the tragic accidental shooting on the Rust film set in 2021.

During the second episode of the couple’s TLC reality show The Baldwins, Hilaria Baldwin mentioned that her husband sent her disturbing text messages expressing suicidal thoughts after accidentally killing Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza with a prop gun.

Alec Baldwin, who always claimed innocence in the incident, faced involuntary manslaughter charges before the case was thrown out last July.

“I found these text messages the other day between us, you know, the day after,” shared Hilaria Baldwin, who’s been married to the 30 Rock actor since 2012. “And [Alec] said he wanted to kill himself.”

In a confessional segment, Baldwin, mother to seven children with her husband, revealed that he “has survivor’s guilt” from the tragedy.

“You’re involved in this thing that nobody could even possibly imagine,” she explained. “And so he goes back to that day, he wishes it were him. He would change places [with Hutchins] in a second.”

Later in the episode, Hilaria Baldwin mentioned that her husband will “never be the same,” pointing out changes in his mental and physical wellbeing.

“This has affected his health and his mental health tremendously the past few years,” she said. “All of a sudden, he has started having heart problems. He’s been hospitalized multiple times.”

Others charged in the shooting included armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who got 18 months for involuntary manslaughter; safety coordinator Dave Halls, who pleaded no contest and served six months probation; and props master Sarah Zachry, who signed a cooperation agreement with prosecutors.

Just last month, Alec Baldwin talked about his PTSD on The Baldwins and admitted he’s sometimes unable to get out of bed because of the shooting. Responding to the episode, Hutchins’ family questioned the actor’s intentions.

“Why is he claiming that he has PTSD?” the family said in a statement to The Independent. “Is his reality show just a veiled attempt to create sympathy for himself with a future jury pool in our civil case? Is this just a shameless attempt to portray him as the real victim in this case?”
