Nearly two years after dropping as a standout track on Travis Scott’s fourth album Utopia, “FE!N,” featuring Playboi Carti, is still dominating playlists and remains a fan-favorite from both artists’ catalogs. In a fresh interview with Eric Skelton for Complex’s newest cover story, Scott reflects on his initial gut feelings about the track, comparing his certainty about its future impact to how he felt when creating the Drake collab “Sicko Mode” from Astroworld.
“The song was pretty much done,” Scott explained when asked about how “FE!N” came to be. “I just brought it when we were in the A. I remember we did a song before that, and before I left, I was like, ‘Well, I got this one joint I want to play. I’m thinking about putting it on my album. We’ll see if you want to fuck with it.’ And when I played it, he was just going crazy.”
Scott then made a connection to “Sicko Mode,” pointing out that both tracks, which mark crucial moments in his artistic evolution, were initially kept mostly “tucked” away to protect a bigger creative vision.
