Jim Jones insists Drake has contributed more to hip-hop culture “than most of these people.”
During a recent chat on Way Up with Angela Yee, Jones doubled down on his earlier statement that Drake deserves GOAT status—a bold claim he originally made while talking to Complex’s Jordan Rose back in March 2023.
Around the 48-minute mark in the video, when Yee questioned if he still held that opinion, Jones didn’t miss a beat and playfully referenced the viral “Babygirl” line from “Nokia,” before adding, “Came back smashing, ya heard?”
He went on, “What are you really gonna say about Drake? What can you actually do against him? He’s completely transformed how we experience music over the last decade. And he’s helped reshape the sound of all our favorite rappers who’ve been in the game.
“Think about any top rapper right now, and Drake has given their career a massive boost—whether by jumping on one of their tracks or bringing them on tour,” Jones pointed out. “He’s contributed to our culture more than most people have, you know what I’m saying? Just think about it.”
Yee mentioned that “a lot has happened since then,” probably referring to Drake’s high-profile battle with Kendrick Lamar last year.
“I mean, hell, even Michael Jordan lost games. But we still call him the greatest, right? If LeBron doesn’t get past Ant and them, would people say, ‘LeBron isn’t the greatest anymore?’ Nah, he’s still the greatest. Doesn’t change who we are. It’s just Drake. Shout out to Drizzy,” he finished.
