Kid Cudi just revealed he’s taking the plunge into both directing and starring in his own feature film.
On Saturday, Cudi dropped a tweet announcing his upcoming double duty as director and actor in a new movie called When The Light Dies. He described the project as a horror-romance film and promised fans he’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses of the filmmaking process on social media.
“Ive been wanting to direct movies ever since I was a kid, and im finally stepping into this new chapter,” Cudi tweeted. “Imgoin to make a page on IG thats dedicated to bringing u in on the journey. Ive been doing test shoots, trying diff lighting techniques and trying diff lenses, and I wanna give u guys access to my mind. Who’s joining the journey?”
While directing might be new territory, Cudi’s been building his acting portfolio since the early 2010s, appearing in shows and movies like One Tree Hill, How to Make it in America, Need for Speed, Entourage, X, and several others. Back in 2020, he launched his own production company called Mad Solar, which has backed various film projects including Entergalactic and X’s prequel and sequel, Pearl and MaXXXine.
Cudi first teased his directorial ambitions in 2022 when he announced he’d be directing, writing, and starring in a Netflix film called Teddy. That project was reportedly inspired by his 2009 hit “Pursuit of Happiness” with Jeymes Samuel and Jay-Z attached as producers. It’s not yet clear whether there’s any connection between that film and his newly announced project, When The Light Dies.
