The Columbus Police Department has released intense footage showing officers confronting a teenager armed with a gun near a community pool.
The incident unfolded at the Barack Community Center parking lot, close to the pool area, after reports of gunfire, according to TMZ.
In the video, a female officer can be heard urgently directing both kids and adults at the pool to take cover. Another clip shows a bike patrol officer spotting three teens matching the description of potential suspects linked to the shooting report.
After an officer shouted “hands” to get the teens to comply, he drew his service weapon. As backup arrived, one of the teens took off running.
Moments later, another teen walked behind a nearby Jeep, then suddenly turned toward the officer—prompting the officer to fire three shots, striking the teen in the legs and arms.
Police later found a weapon stashed under the vehicle and arrested the injured 16-year-old. He’s facing charges for carrying a concealed weapon, obstructing official business, and tampering with evidence.
Meanwhile, the 15-year-old who fled the parking lot was also taken into custody. Authorities say he tried to ditch a stolen firearm near the pool. He’s now facing charges including carrying a concealed weapon, receiving stolen property, tampering with evidence, and obstructing official business.
The third teen, who followed police commands, was not arrested or charged.
