Joycelyn Savage is once again speaking out to shut down claims from her family that she’s being “brainwashed” by R. Kelly.
In a new video shared on social media, the 29-year-old—who has long been identified as one of the disgraced singer’s alleged victims—firmly denied her parents’ ongoing accusations. “My name is Joycelyn Savage, I’m 29 years old and I’ll be 30 next month,” she began. “I am not a victim. I’ve been with Robert for ten years, he has been incarcerated for six years, and I have seen him every weekend for the past six years.”
Savage revealed she proposed to R. Kelly three years ago, and he said yes. “We are planning on getting married and having a family,” she said. “Please do not believe the lies that my mother and father are coming out here saying about me and Robert. I am not held against my will, I am not a ‘sex slave,’ I am not ‘brainwashed,’ or any of those crazy lies that were told on me.”
She urged people to pray for Kelly, expressing her hope that he’ll be released soon. “I just want Robert to get the righteous justice that he deserves, because he deserves to be free. Enough is enough.”
As for her family, Savage said she’s cut ties by choice. “I choose not to call my mother and father because I do not want to talk to them,” she said. “I have a cellphone, and I choose not to call them. I’m a grown woman, and if I decide not to call them, that’s my choice. It is what it is. I’m happy where I’m at, I’m in love. I’m good.”
In 2022, R. Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison by a New York jury on a range of serious charges, including sexual exploitation of children, kidnapping, forced labor, and multiple violations of the sex-trafficking statute known as the Mann Act. A separate Chicago trial resulted in an additional 20-year sentence for charges including three counts of producing child pornography and three counts of enticing minors for sex.
Meanwhile, Joycelyn Savage’s family continues to express concern. According to TMZ, her relatives claim they haven’t heard from her in years.
