Selena Gomez juggles plenty of roles—singer, actress, beauty mogul, and now fiancée—and she believes timing has been on her side.
In her Allure cover interview published Tuesday, September 9, the Only Murders in the Building star opened up about her relationship with music producer Benny Blanco.
The two have worked together for years, with Blanco producing Gomez’s 2015 singles “Same Old Love” and “Kill Em With Kindness.” But despite their long history, they didn’t start dating until 2023. By December, they were officially engaged—a timeline Gomez says couldn’t have happened any earlier.
“I don’t think I would have been remotely mature enough,” she admitted. “It’s weird to think that only five years ago I wouldn’t have been in the right place, but I’ve learned so many lessons [since then] that led me to being the best partner I could be for Benny. And I believe the same with him.”
Gomez admitted that while Benny Blanco sometimes wonders about the timing, she believes everything worked out exactly as it should.
“He’ll say, ‘Gosh, why did we waste so much time?’ And I always say, ‘You wouldn’t have liked me back then. I was all over the place,’” she shared.
Earlier this year, in March, the couple teamed up for a joint album titled I Said I Love You First.
Meanwhile, fans can catch Gomez back on screen in season five of Only Murders in the Building, which premiered Tuesday on Hulu.
