While resurfaced clips, past claims, and unverified stories continue to circulate, Celeste’s family has now broken their silence.
Per Rolling Stone, the family’s attorney Patrick Steinfeld addressed a specific rumor on Friday, May 1. Some online users had claimed that D4vd either contacted Celeste’s family or paid them before her death. Responding on behalf of Jesus Rivas, Steinfeld shut that down.
“I never had any contact with this guy, and we haven’t received any money from him or anyone in his family,” Jesus Rivas reportedly said. Steinfeld also shared that the family is currently dealing with “unfathomable pain” over their loss and are deeply shaken by the disturbing details emerging from prosecutors.
“I had the heartbreaking responsibility of informing the Rivas Hernandez family of the horrifying allegations submitted in court,” Steinfeld added. “That David Anthony Burke allegedly stabbed Celeste, ‘stood by while she bled’ to death, used a chainsaw to cut off her limbs, and bought a ‘burn cage’ with the plan to ‘incinerate the evidence.’” He described it as “the most difficult thing I’ve had to do in 37 years as a lawyer.”
The attorney is said to have walked back his earlier push for the family to speak out, as the shocking details of the alleged murder left them overwhelmed. “They still have bills to pay and jobs they go to every day. All they want is time to grieve and heal,” he reportedly shared.
More recently, a new death certificate for Celeste Rivas has reportedly raised the possibility that she may have been pregnant. This comes alongside other developments in the case, including prosecutors pointing to alleged text message exchanges between her and D4vd.
