Tom Hardy Reportedly Fired From MobLand After Alleged Clashes With Producers

Tom Hardy reportedly will not return for future seasons of MobLand following alleged behind-the-scenes clashes with members of the production team.

According to Variety, Hardy completed filming for Season 2 in March, but was later asked not to come back due to reported disagreements with executive producer Jez Butterworth and 101 Studios.

Despite the controversy, MobLand has been a major success for Paramount+, pulling in more than 26 million views during its first season. However, the series will now reportedly move forward without Hardy attached.

Puck News first reported Hardy’s departure and claimed that, beyond the alleged creative disagreements, the actor was frequently late to set. The report also alleged Hardy “constantly asked to give notes on scripts” and became frustrated with the growing focus on other cast members featured throughout the series. Even without Hardy, Season 2 of MobLand is still expected to premiere later this year.

In the series, Hardy portrays Harry Da Souza, a fixer working for the Harrigan crime family. The actor stars alongside Pierce Brosnan, Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Toby Jones, and Helen Mirren. Hardy’s own production company, Hardy Son and Baker, also served as one of the companies involved with the show’s production. A third season has not yet officially been announced.

This also isn’t the first time Hardy has reportedly experienced tension on set. The actor famously clashed with Charlize Theron during the production of the 2015 action hit Mad Max: Fury Road, with Theron previously revealing that the two “fuckin’ went at it” while filming.

During a 2020 interview with The New York Times, Hardy later admitted he regretted his behavior on set.

“I think in hindsight, I was in over my head in many ways. The pressure on both of us was overwhelming at times,” Hardy said. “What she needed was a better, perhaps more experienced, partner in me. That’s something that can’t be faked. I’d like to think that now that I’m older and uglier, I could rise to that occasion.”
