Judge Throws Out All Lawsuits Filed by Tony Buzbee Against Jay-Z’s Roc Nation

Roc Nation has won a complete dismissal of all lawsuits filed against it by Tony Buzbee’s law firm.

According to court documents, Texas state Judge Kristen Hawkins ruled on Tuesday (June 16) that the court lacked jurisdiction over the entertainment company founded by Jay-Z in claims brought by Gerardo Garcia, Jose Maldonado, and the Buzbee Law Firm.

As a result, all claims against Roc Nation were dismissed after the plaintiffs failed to provide sufficient grounds for the Texas court to hear the cases.

Buzbee initially filed the lawsuit in Texas in December 2024, naming Roc Nation, Jay-Z’s legal representatives at Quinn Emanuel, and attorney Marcy Croft as defendants.

Per Rolling Stone, Buzbee alleged that the defendants employed “shadowy operatives” and offered financial incentives in an effort to persuade his former clients to file what he described as “frivolous” lawsuits against him.

Roc Nation pushed back against the allegations, calling the case “another sham” in a statement provided to the publication.

One of the plaintiffs, Gerardo Garcia, a former client of Buzbee’s firm, claimed that two investigators came to his Houston home identifying themselves as being with “the state.” He alleged that they offered him money to participate in a class-action lawsuit against Buzbee’s law firm.

The legal battle stemmed from a since-amended civil lawsuit that accused Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl at an afterparty following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.

Jay-Z swiftly denied the allegations, publicly describing them as a “blackmail attempt.” In February 2025, Jane Doe voluntarily dismissed her lawsuit against Jay-Z with prejudice. Following the dismissal, Roc Nation shared a statement on social media that read, “Today is a victory. The frivolous, fictitious and appalling allegations have been dismissed.”

While the judge determined that Texas courts do not have personal jurisdiction over Roc Nation, the plaintiffs still have the option to refile their claims in a different jurisdiction.
