Benny Blanco has revealed that his mother predicted his future with Selena Gomez long before the two officially became a couple, even suggesting he should marry the singer while he was still in another relationship.
During a recent episode of his Friends Keep Secrets podcast featuring Breaking Bad stars Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston, the 38-year-old producer shared the surprising story.
“The crazy thing is 2019, I’m shooting a video with Selena. I’m dating someone else,” Blanco recalled. “My mom’s on the video shoot and she says, ‘Hun, … you should marry Selena.’ And I was like, ‘What?’ And she was like, ‘You should be dating someone like Selena.’”
Blanco went on to explain that there were several moments over the years when spending time with Gomez left a lasting impression on him.
“And there was like two times in my life where I left a specific session late or video with her where I was like, ‘Wow, she’s so cool. She’s like really cool,’” he said. “’Cause we were friendly and we were friends, but we weren’t like best friends. And every time I hung out with her for an extended period of time, I’d be like, ‘Oh my god, she’s so cool.’”
Reflecting on their relationship now, Blanco credited their strong friendship as the foundation of their romance.
“Everyone says you always marry your best friend. Like, that’s when it works and she’s my fucking best friend,” he concluded.
Elsewhere during the podcast, Benny Blanco shared that one of his former girlfriends reached out after hearing about his marriage to Selena Gomez. According to Blanco, she texted him to say it was “so great” that he and Gomez had tied the knot, recalling how positively he had always spoken about the singer and actress.
Blanco and Gomez first worked together on the 2019 song “I Can’t Get Enough,” alongside J Balvin and Tainy. They later reunited professionally for Gomez’s 2023 single “Single Soon.”
The pair publicly confirmed their relationship in December 2023, got engaged the following year, and officially married in September 2025.
