Fetty Wap says he remains focused and determined despite the personal challenges he has faced throughout his life.
The “Trap Queen” rapper spoke with Real 92.3 LA personality DJ A-OH at the BET Media House over the weekend, where he reflected on the resilience he has built over the years. Earlier this year, Fetty was released from prison after serving nearly four years following his conviction in a drug trafficking conspiracy case. He had originally been expected to remain behind bars until 2029.
“Faith, man,” Fetty said around the 3:30 mark of the interview when asked what helped him through that difficult chapter. “I never gave up on myself. And this [stems] back from when I was a child, bro, to me growing up with the congenital glaucoma [and] having one eye. … The doctors [were] telling me I wouldn’t be able to drive, I wouldn’t be able to ride a bike.”
The rapper went on to reveal that he now drives, rides motorcycles, and has even gone skydiving.
“I did everything that everybody told me I couldn’t do. And that’s what kept me going,” he continued. “When I felt like everybody was, like, doubting me with the music after after a few years, it was like, ‘Bro, nah, I’ve got to keep pushing.’”
Fetty also shared that while serving his sentence, he completed HVAC training, earned his GED, and stayed committed to working out.
“Everything starts with that faith, bro. And I never lost that faith in myself,” he added.
He also offered words of encouragement to anyone feeling discouraged, urging them to shift their mindset and “take it day-by-day.”
Since his release from prison, Fetty has been open about the setbacks he faced in his career. During a March appearance on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, he revealed that his performance fee had dropped from $250,000 to just $5,000 during a difficult stretch in his career.
