Ariana Grande will no longer appear in American Horror Story after stepping away from the project due to her upcoming tour schedule.
The singer and actress has officially exited Season 13 of the FX anthology series because her ongoing Eternal Sunshine tour, which concludes in August, clashes with the show’s production timeline.
Her casting was first revealed last Halloween through a social media announcement from Ryan Murphy Productions. Grande had been set to join an all-star lineup of American Horror Story veterans, including Angela Bassett, Sarah Paulson, Emma Roberts, Gabourey Sidibe, Evan Peters, Jessica Lange, and Kathy Bates.
The role would have marked Grande’s debut on American Horror Story. She previously teamed up with the series’ creator, Ryan Murphy, when she starred in Scream Queens back in 2015.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, American Horror Story is currently shooting in New York, with the new season scheduled to premiere on September 24.
Grande launched her Eternal Sunshine tour last month, and the opening shows also served as a creative way to unveil the tracklist for her upcoming album, Petal, which is due for release on July 31.
During her performance at the Kia Forum on June 19, Grande officially revealed the album’s 12-song tracklist. The project is co-executive produced by Grande alongside her longtime collaborator, ILYA.
In addition to her Eternal Sunshine tour, Grande is also preparing for her role in the upcoming comedy Focker-In-Law, the fourth installment in the beloved Meet the Parents film franchise.
Last October, Ben Stiller applauded Grande’s comedic talent while appearing on The View. “I can’t really say too much about it yet,” he said. “But Ariana’s in it. She’s amazing. What a brilliant comedic actress, just an amazing person.”
Before that, Stiller also spoke about working with Grande during an interview with E! News. “What’s surprising, and maybe not really surprising, is how amazingly she blended in,” Stiller explained. “She’s such a pro, she’s so funny, she’s so talented, obviously as a singer, but also she was so funny and amazing in Wicked.”
“What she’s doing in this movie is very unique, it’s a very unique character, and we’re having a great time and just like to work with her,” he added.
