Young Thug has weighed in on the witnesses who testified against Lil Durk following the Chicago rapper’s acquittal in his federal murder-for-hire trial.
Shortly after Durk was found not guilty on Friday (September 11), Thugger took to social media to call for lengthy prison sentences for two cooperating witnesses in the case, Kacey “OTF Jam” Hester and Kavon “OTF Vonnie” Grant.
The YSL boss wrote on Instagram that he hoped both men would receive “44,537 days a piece #gamegod please,” which amounts to roughly 122 years each.
Thug followed up with another post referencing Durk by his Smurk nickname. “Tell smurk to say something if I’m lying #Freesmurkio,” he wrote.
Thugger also appeared to hint that he had a hand in assisting Durk’s defense, posting on X: “Thank me later.”
In another post, he brought up attorney Brian Steel, who previously represented Thug in the extensive YSL RICO case before later joining Durk’s legal team. “I didn’t have to pay lol Brian does whatever I say on face asksmurk,” Thug wrote.
Steel, who also represented Sean “Diddy” Combs in his federal case, was part of Durk’s defense team as the rapper fought charges tied to the deadly 2022 shooting.
A jury made up of seven women and five men found Durk not guilty on Friday after deliberating for two days. He was acquitted of all five charges, including conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire and using interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death.
Federal prosecutors alleged that Durk ordered the 2022 shooting as retaliation for the 2020 killing of King Von. Quando Rondo, whose real name is Tyiquan Bowman, was allegedly the intended target, but the attack instead resulted in the death of his cousin, Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson.
Hester, Grant and Keith “Flacka” Jones testified as cooperating witnesses after pleading guilty to charges related to the case. Durk’s defense team attempted to place more responsibility on Grant, with attorney Drew Findling calling him a “fraudster” and “master of deception” during the trial.
Despite being acquitted, Durk is not being released just yet. He remains in custody while awaiting a separate trial on racketeering-related charges, which is scheduled to begin October 5 in federal court in Los Angeles.
