Jennifer Lawrence Rules Out Reprising Her Role as Mystique in ‘X-Men’: ‘Absolutely F*cking Not’

Jennifer Lawrence has made it clear that returning as Mystique in X-Men isn’t something she’s eager to do.

During a recent Allure video revisiting some of her most memorable movie costumes, the Academy Award-winning actress was asked if she would be willing to undergo the extensive blue body painting and prosthetics again to reprise her role as Mystique. Lawrence didn’t hesitate to share her response.

“Never say never, but absolutely fucking not,” the The Hunger Games actress said around the nine-minute mark of the video below. “Because you know how airbrushing is very cold? So it was like seven airbrushes all… I mean, and I’m ticklish, too.”

“I think I learned how little sleep I can operate on and what can happen to the human mind when you’ve actually reached your breaking point. And patience!” Lawrence added.

The actress portrayed Mystique in four installments of the X-Men franchise during the 2010s, making her debut in X-Men: First Class. Before Lawrence took on the role, Rebecca Romijn played the fictional mutant in the franchise’s first live-action adaptation during the 2000s. Romijn is set to reprise her role as the shape-shifting mutant in Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled to hit theaters on December 18.

Lawrence also opened up about the demanding transformation process required to play Mystique during an October 28 appearance on Call Her Daddy, describing the experience as “all body paint and glue.”

“It was eight hours every time and ticklish…” she said around the 28-minute mark of the video below. “Imagine two tiny, cold, compressing air brushes all over your body. I am a hero. No one will understand what I went through.”
