The estate of Takeoff is claiming that the woman who accused the late rapper of sexual assault deleted text messages that could potentially support their defense in her civil lawsuit.
According to a report published by MyNewsLA on Thursday (Oct. 29), Takeoff’s estate has filed a motion requesting that a judge impose terminating sanctions against the accuser. The move comes after an October deposition in which the woman, identified as Jane Doe, reportedly acknowledged deleting text messages related to the case after filing her lawsuit.
The legal battle traces back to 2020, when Doe accused the former Migos member of raping her at a party in Encino, Calif. Although prosecutors declined to pursue criminal charges, she proceeded to file a civil lawsuit against Takeoff later that year.
In its filing, the estate maintains that the deleted messages could have played a significant role in its defense, especially following testimony from one of the woman’s friends. According to the filing, the friend claimed that Doe’s allegations were fabricated with the assistance of other friends she had exchanged text messages with.
Takeoff, whose birth name was Kirshnik Khari Ball, was fatally shot at a Houston bowling alley on Nov. 1, 2022. Following his death, the civil lawsuit has continued against his estate.
Should the judge approve the estate’s request, the sanctions could lead to a default judgment against the accuser. A hearing on the motion is set for Jan. 26, 2027.
