Justin Timberlake Reportedly Preparing ‘Tell-All’ Docuseries Featuring Janet Jackson

Justin Timberlake is reportedly working on a four-part docuseries for Apple TV, with Janet Jackson also expected to feature in the project.

According to three sources who spoke with Variety, the series is being described as a “tell-all” and will be directed by Fisher Stevens.

One source revealed that Jackson appears in the docuseries and addresses the notorious “wardrobe malfunction” during her 2004 Super Bowl performance alongside Timberlake. Another source claimed that Timberlake also responds to some of the recent remarks made by his ex-girlfriend, Britney Spears.

Representatives for Timberlake, Jackson and Apple either declined to comment or failed to respond to Variety’s multiple requests for a statement.

Jackson’s reported participation is particularly significant given the controversy surrounding the 2004 performance. On Feb. 1, 2004, approximately 150 million viewers were tuned in when Timberlake, making a surprise appearance during the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show in Houston, pulled away part of Jackson’s costume during the final line of “Rock Your Body” (“I better have you naked by the end of this song”). The moment exposed her nipple, which was covered by a shield, sparking a massive controversy that became widely known as “Nipplegate.”

Much of the backlash from the incident was directed at Jackson. Viacom and its affiliated networks removed her singles and music videos from several radio stations and music channels, while the FCC slapped CBS with a record $550,000 fine, which was later overturned by a federal appeals court.

Nearly 14 years later, Timberlake returned to the Super Bowl spotlight, headlining the halftime show at Super Bowl LII in 2018.

His apologies came at different points over the years. During the 2004 Grammy Awards, he described the incident as “unintentional, completely regrettable,” as reported by Billboard. Then, in February 2021, following the release of the Framing Britney Spears documentary, he shared an apology on Instagram directed at both women.

“I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually, because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed,” he wrote at the time.

The upcoming docuseries arrives after several challenging years for Timberlake.

His latest album, Everything I Thought It Was, was released in March 2024 to mixed reviews. A few months later, in June, he was arrested for DWI in Sag Harbor, New York. The case eventually ended with him pleading guilty to a reduced impaired-driving charge, alongside 25 hours of community service.

In July 2025, toward the end of his Forget Tomorrow tour, Timberlake revealed that he had been diagnosed with Lyme disease, explaining that the condition had affected his performances.

The following September, he joined Jay-Z onstage during his Paris concert, where they performed “Holy Grail.” Last month, Timberlake also featured on Quavo’s new track, “House Music.”

According to sources who spoke with Variety, the docuseries is expected to premiere on Apple TV in December.
