Zayn Malik Appears to Reflect on Racism Faced During One Direction Days in New Rap Track

Zayn Malik is getting personal and pulling no punches in his latest track.

On Saturday, the former One Direction star dropped a preview of his new rap song, “Fuchsia Sea,” on Instagram. In the powerful snippet, Malik reflects on the racism he endured as the only non-white member of the chart-topping boy band. He was part of the group with Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and the late Liam Payne before exiting in 2015 after five whirlwind years.

In the clip, Zayn raps, “Got my back against the wall so much they think I got a brick fascination / Do you remember every conversation? ‘Cause I have been conscious of every connotation. And while they concentrate on their elevation, I’ve got a round trip to the constellation / I’m a convert to the concert, and I did that for inflation, ’cause I worked hard in a White band, and they still laughed at the Asian.”

Malik dropped the teaser clip with the caption “coming soon” and later followed up by posting the full verse on his Instagram Stories—hinting that an official release is around the corner.

The emotional preview comes nearly a year after the heartbreaking loss of Liam Payne in October 2024. The tragedy brought the former One Direction members together for the first time since Malik’s exit, as they reunited at Payne’s funeral in his hometown of Wolverhampton.

Zayn also honored his late bandmate during a performance, dedicating the heartfelt track “It’s You” to Liam.
