Kodak Black Hit With $10.6 Million Lawsuit Over 2022 Super Bowl Party Shooting

Kodak Black is facing a $10.6 million lawsuit tied to a 2022 shooting that left him and two others injured outside a Super Bowl afterparty in Los Angeles.

The incident happened on February 12, 2022, outside Justin Bieber’s bash at The Nice Guy. Footage from the night shows Kodak, born Bill Kahan Kapri, posing for fan photos before getting caught in a street fight that suddenly turned violent. He was shot, along with bystanders Mark Schaefer and Adam Rahman.

According to TMZ Hip-Hop, Schaefer and Rahman are now suing Kodak, claiming he started the brawl that led to the gunfire. The lawsuit originally named Bieber and The Nice Guy as co-defendants, but both were later dropped from the case.

During a court hearing on Wednesday, August 6, the plaintiffs’ lawyer requested a default ruling, arguing Kodak hadn’t responded to the suit. The judge denied the request, saying there wasn’t enough evidence of damages like medical expenses. Schaefer and Rahman have until August 25 to resubmit.

Kodak’s lawyer, Bradford Cohen, pushed back hard, telling TMZ, “We are not paying them a thing — it’s us who are the victim of a legal assault by these two people.” He also pointed to video that shows Kodak rushing toward a fight before shots rang out. “Kodak gets shot, so they are suing the man who got shot? I don’t understand the lawsuit.”

Cohen also claimed Kodak was never properly served with the suit. Rolling Stone reports that plaintiffs tried twice — first through Kodak’s mother and then by mail — but Cohen argues the address used was for a house Kodak doesn’t own.

“Kodak has never been served with any lawsuit from California. He was never on notice of anything from California,” Cohen told the outlet. “I find it unusual that they’re attempting to sue the very person who was the most injured out of the individuals who got shot.”

Kodak suffered a gunshot wound to his upper leg, while Schaefer was hit in the ankle and Rahman in the shoulder. To date, no arrests have been made in the case.
