Southside of 808 Mafia has made it clear he won’t be working with Gunna anytime soon, choosing loyalty to Young Thug over potential collaborations.
Speaking on Drink Champs, the producer was asked if he’d ever cook up beats for Gunna, and his response was blunt: “I ain’t making no beats for him.” He explained his stance, saying, “Right is right, wrong is wrong. I’m a street n***a at the end of the day,” stressing that his bond with Thug runs too deep to cross.
“Slime been my friend,” Southside said. “I made ‘Danny Glover’ for him. That blew him up. That’s been my friend when he ain’t had teeth in his mouth. He was signed with Gucci at first, so that’s been my friend for a long time, so I can never go against what he say, like you know what I’m saying?”
He added that their loyalty goes both ways: “If he feels some kind of way about it, that’s how he feel. He’s the same way with me. If I feel some kind of way about something with somebody, he just ain’t gonna fuck with it, you know what I’m saying? Just ’cause I feel some kind of way. So I just like, I can’t do it.”
Southside doubled down on his position, making it clear that even if Gunna personally reached out, the answer wouldn’t change. “Can’t do [it]. Fuck what they got. Can’t do it, you know what I’m saying? My dog is my dog, you know what I’m saying? It is what it is.”
While he hesitated to outright say whether Gunna “violated,” the producer offered his take from a street perspective. “Street-wise, I would have never did what he did, like I’m just—that’s just me. Like, you know what I’m saying, and if my brother did that to me, I feel some kind of way,” he said.
Southside and Gunna previously linked up on tracks like 2019’s “Gunna Swag” and 2022’s “Order.” But based on Southside’s latest remarks, fans shouldn’t expect any more collaborations between the two.
