Cardi B’s ever-changing wigs have been almost as talked about as the trial itself.
Right after a jury ruled she did not assault former security guard Emani Ellis back in 2018, the rapper stepped outside a Los Angeles courthouse on Tuesday (Sept. 2) to thank the jurors, the judge, the “respectful press,” and “everybody at home” for standing by her.
One reporter noted in Spanish that Cardi had shown up in a new wig every single day of the five-day trial.
“I’m telling you guys, when I say that my forehead is raw from changing all these wigs,” Cardi replied in English, sparking laughter from the press. “Raw, raw, raw, raw.”
Cardi’s rotating wigs during the trial, which kicked off Aug. 26, even drew questions from plaintiff’s attorney Ron Rosen.
“Yesterday, you had black hair, short hair. Today it’s blond and long,” Rosen pointed out. “Which one is your real hair, or are they both real?”
Cardi chuckled before simply replying, “They’re wigs.”
Outside court, the rapper doubled down, telling reporters that despite her reputation, she never assaulted Emani Ellis—and warned she’ll start countersuing anyone who files “frivolous” claims against her.
“I swear to God I will say it on my deathbed: I did not touch that woman. I did not touch that girl, I didn’t lay my hands on that girl,” Cardi said. “With that being said, this time around I’m gonna be nice. The next person to try to do a frivolous lawsuit against me, I’m going to countersue and I’m gonna make you pay because this is not OK.”
“I know I got a lil reputation,” she added with a laugh, “but I swear to God I’m innocent.”
The “Enough (Miami)” star also asked her fans not to attack Ellis or her family online.
“I hope that this is something I leave behind, that she leaves behind,” she said. “Don’t go bother her. Don’t be talking about her, don’t be talking about how she looks. Don’t call her no nasty names. Let’s just put this behind.”
With the case now closed, Cardi can shift her full focus back to her upcoming album Am I the Drama?, dropping Sept. 19.
