DDG, whose new album Moo reportedly pulled in about 563,000 streams on its first day, is speaking out against the industry’s obsession with numbers.
“This music shit done got so bad that n***as is talking about first-day streams, bro,” DDG said during a recent livestream. “Come on, bro. Like, Jesus. What has the music industry become? He went on to say that today’s focus on numbers overshadows the true essence of music and art.
“Nowadays, it’s all about who can get the most numbers and who can get the most streams,” he continued. “How about we start enjoying music for what music is? Art. Last time I checked, when I think of art, I never thought of a number.”
After the clip began circulating online, DDG clapped back at an X user who claimed his latest project “isn’t art,” replying, “ur poor bro, who cares.” He also went on to call his album Moo the “best” release of the year.
