6ix9ine has come under fire after joking in a recent interview that Demi Lovato would relapse—and even suggesting sending her drugs to make it happen.
While chatting with Andie Elle on her podcast, the rapper first appeared to imply that Miranda Cosgrove, who played Carly Shay on iCarly, was using cocaine before clarifying he was referring to Demi Lovato instead. When Elle mentioned Lovato’s sobriety, 6ix9ine responded at the 44:25 mark, “She’s gonna relapse.”
“Let’s send her a gift,” he added. “Let’s send her some [censored], make her relapse.”
After the clip went viral, 6ix9ine told TMZ that his comment was meant as dark humor. “Dark humor is going extinct,” he said. “People in this generation are just overly sensitive.”
Lovato has been open about her 2018 near-fatal overdose, revealing in her Dancing With the Devil docuseries that she suffered three strokes, a heart attack, and brain damage.
“I actually don’t think people realize how bad it actually was,” she said. “I had three strokes. I had a heart attack. I suffered brain damage from the strokes. I can’t drive anymore, and I have blind spots in my vision.”
She also shared, “I had pneumonia ’cause I asphyxiated, and multiple organ failure.”
Lovato explained that before her overdose, she had relapsed and begun using harder drugs such as crack and heroin. Reflecting on the incident, she said she’s “really lucky to be alive,” adding, “My doctors said that I had five to 10 more minutes, and had my assistant not come in, I wouldn’t be here today.”
As of now, Demi Lovato has chosen not to respond to 6ix9ine’s comments.
