Amy Poehler is revisiting a heated moment from a flight years ago that started after she dropped a few curse words near a baby — with longtime friend and collaborator Ana Gasteyer right there to witness it.
The story came up on a recent episode of Poehler’s Good Hang podcast, where she and Gasteyer reflected on traveling together while filming Mean Girls. At the time, Gasteyer was flying with her infant daughter, Frances, who is now 23.
“I remember being on a plane with you [and] you got into a fight with a guy,” Gasteyer recalled. “Baby Frances was on the plane with us. The guy got mad that you were swearing in front of the baby.”
Poehler explained that the man complained about her being too loud while he was trying to sleep — something that didn’t sit well with the comedian.
“It’s a long story,” Poehler said, hinting that her Boston attitude quickly kicked in when she fired back. While she spared the details of exactly what was said, both women made it clear the situation escalated into a full-on verbal showdown.
Gasteyer described the moment as “the best thing I’ve ever seen,” praising how fiercely Poehler stood her ground. At the time, the two actresses were spending a lot of time together promoting and working on projects like Mean Girls, which famously brought together several Saturday Night Live alumni.
The chat also drifted into some nostalgia about that chapter of their careers, with the pair reminiscing about early table reads and late-night hotel hangouts with Tina Fey, who penned the film.
