A$AP Rocky’s April performance has resurfaced online, and Drake fans have been relentlessly clowning him over it.
It’s been a few months since Rocky released his latest studio album, Don’t Be Dumb. While the project has been praised as one of the year’s biggest releases, it also included a few apparent shots aimed at Drake. The two artists were once close, but Rocky’s relationship with Rihanna seemingly created tension between them. Now that Rocky and Rihanna share three children together, Drake’s latest album ICEMAN has only intensified attention from the rapper’s loyal fanbase.
The trolling has continued even in moments where Drake wasn’t directly involved. Back in late April, Rocky performed during the Chanel Cruise 2027 after-party in Biarritz, France, in a smaller and more intimate setting. As he performed tracks from Don’t Be Dumb, many online pointed out that the Chanel audience didn’t exactly seem like his typical hip-hop crowd.
Elle later shared footage from the performance, which recently started circulating online again as Rocky prepares to launch his upcoming tour on May 27. Drake fans quickly flooded social media with jokes, mocking the rapper for performing in front of what many described as a fashion-focused audience rather than core rap fans. Despite the reactions, Rocky appeared committed to delivering an energetic performance while previewing the kind of stage presence fans can expect from his tour.
“Someone said ‘He should’ve just performed this for Rihanna and the kids at the house” one X user joked.
Another person added, “rocky post testing is one of the saddest things ive ever seen.”
At the end of the day, publicity is still publicity, even if this smaller performance didn’t necessarily translate well into viral social media moments. The clips started making rounds online just a week after Drake dropped ICEMAN, where many listeners believed he threw subliminal shots at both A$AP Rocky and Rihanna on tracks like “Burning Bridges,” “Firm Friends,” and possibly “Ran To Atlanta.”
