One of the men convicted in the murder of Julio Foolio addressed the court after receiving his sentence, using the moment to warn others about the consequences of violence.
On Monday, Isaiah Chance was one of four men sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the killing of the Jacksonville, Florida rapper. Following the sentencing, Chance described his experience as a lesson for others.
“To my city, man, it ain’t worth it, boy, like, it ain’t worth it. Like, me being a rapper from my city and Foolio being a rapper from our city, it ain’t worth it,” he said. “The dissing, the beefing, the shooting, like, for what?”
Chance went on to reflect on the reality of life behind bars.
“When you sitting in your cell alone, cold, it’s lonely,” Chance explained. “Everybody leave you. Like, nobody here for you. Like, the ones that’s your ride or die, your girlfriends, whoever you love, the only person there for you is your mother.”
He continued, “I was 21 years old, facing the death penalty. My only interactions with law enforcement was traffic tickets. Wake up next morning, I’m facing the death penalty. That’s how quick life can change. It ain’t worth it, bro. That’s all.”
Along with Isaiah Chance, Sean Gathright, Davion Murphy, and Rashad Murphy were also convicted in the killing of Julio Foolio. All four men received life sentences without the possibility of parole. A fifth defendant, Alicia Andrews, was previously found guilty of manslaughter last year.
Julio Foolio was shot and killed on June 23, 2024, in Tampa while celebrating his 26th birthday. According to reports, after he and his group were asked to leave an Airbnb, they attempted to secure a room at a nearby Holiday Inn. Prosecutors alleged that the four men had been tracking Foolio throughout the night before ultimately opening fire on his vehicle. The rapper was pronounced dead at the scene.
