Kendrick Lamar Breaks New Ground: First Rapper to Reach 100 Million Monthly Spotify Plays

Spotify just announced a massive milestone for Kendrick Lamar – he’s officially the first rapper to hit 100 million monthly listeners on the platform.

As of Monday, K-Dot’s pulling in 100,052,025 monthly listeners, making him the 9th artist ever to reach this crazy number. He’s now running with the big dogs like Bruno Mars (151,000,000), The Weeknd (125,000,000), Lady Gaga (123,000,000), Billie Eilish (108,000,000), and Taylor Swift (87,000,000).

Hot on his heels are other rap heavyweights like Post Malone (69,000,000), Drake (77,000,000), Eminem (74,000,000), Ye (67,000,000), and Travis Scott (75,000,000).

But wait, there’s more – Kendrick just pulled off another historic move by becoming the first rapper with three albums chilling in Billboard 200’s top 10 at once: GNX at No. 1, DAMN at No. 9, and Good Kid, M.A.A.D City holding down No. 10.

You’d have to flip back to 1966 to find the last time a male artist – Herb Albert – pulled this off. Only Taylor Swift’s done it among living female artists.

After Kendrick’s Super Bowl LIX halftime show, things got spicy when word got out that an NFL staffer thought picking him over Lil Wayne wasn’t the move.

Skip Bayless spilled the tea about the NFL trying to make things right with Wayne.

“The NFL immediately sent Wayne a letter of apology,” Bayless revealed. “From nobody in particular, just from the league on NFL letterhead. A letter that thanked him for his years of supporting the league, not just the Packers, his favorite team, but supporting and promoting the NFL, in general, which he has.”

The US Sun reports an NFL employee saying: “A mistake was made and we regret the choice that was made. Wayne should have been the first option, as he is from New Orleans and we know that there was a clear motivation for him and his side to do a unique show in his town.”
