Diddy’s attorney says the hip-hop mogul was met with a surprising wave of support from fellow inmates following his recent verdict.
On July 2, Diddy was acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering charges after a weeks-long trial, though he was found guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. While his family and some industry peers celebrated the partial victory, so did others inside the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where he’s been held since his arrest last September after being denied bail multiple times.
According to Diddy’s lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, the Bad Boy Entertainment founder received a standing ovation from inmates when he returned to the facility.
“They all said: ‘We never get to see anyone who beats the government,’” Agnifilo told The Associated Press. “I said: ‘Maybe it’s your fate in life to be the guy who wins.’ They need to see that someone can win. I think he took that to heart.”
Judge Subramanian has proposed an official sentencing date of October 3, with a remote hearing set for July 8. Diddy faces up to 20 years behind bars—10 years for each charge.
As for reactions outside the courtroom? Things got a little bizarre. In a wild scene, a group of people reportedly celebrated by dousing each other in baby oil.
