Yung Miami Likens Her Exit From City Girls to a Major Post-Breakup Glow Up

Yung Miami seems more than happy to have moved on from City Girls, even comparing the split to getting out of a relationship.

During a recent live episode of the Keep It Positive, Sweetie podcast with Crystal Renee Hayslett around the 13-minute mark, Yung Miami got candid about stepping into her solo era following the rap duo she shared with JT.

“New energy, a new frequency, just positive, just happy, and just focusing on me,” Yung Miami said while reflecting on where she is mentally these days. “I think that when you focus on yourself, you’re the best version of yourself.”

“Because when you’re in a group, it’s like being in a relationship,” Yung Miami explained. “Sometimes, y’all don’t always see eye to eye. And when you finally leave that relationship, you’re like, damn my hair is getting longer. Damn, my skin is glowing because you’re focusing on yourself. I’m focused on myself.”

Back in 2024, Yung Miami also opened up to Complex about the downfall of City Girls, suggesting the disappointing performance of their 2023 album RAW played a role in the split.

“The whole rollout for the album was bad because we was just in two different spaces,” she said.

“You know, like, we older now and JT was doing her own thing. She on the West Coast, I’m in Miami. I’m doing my own thing,” Miami continued. “And I felt like naturally, when she doing her own thing, it just worked for her. And when I’m doing my own thing, it worked for me. But when we get together as a group, it just wasn’t connecting. It just wasn’t working no more. So I think we both was at a point where we were just like, ‘We probably should just do our own shit.’”

A few weeks later, JT shared her side of the story during her own interview with Complex, saying the breakup felt natural and didn’t come with any tension between them.

“I think it made sense for both of us and it was no hard feelings,” JT explained.

“I’m like Tina Turner, I’m still a City Girl. I need my name,” she added. “That’s the biggest thing about me. I can’t ever get away from being a City Girl. It just made so much sense for the both of us in the direction that we were going and things that we were focusing on. There wasn’t no hard feeling about it. It was just like, we saw it coming.”
