New York City is buzzing with excitement as the New York Knicks hold a 2-0 lead over the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals. With the series shifting to Madison Square Garden for Game 3, the city is fully embracing the moment as the Knicks make their first Finals appearance since 1999.
Longtime Knicks supporter Fat Joe recently shared just how much the team’s playoff run has united the city.
“I’ve seen Hasidic Jews breakdancing with Black kids outside the stadium. This is the greatest unification you’ve ever seen of this New York City in your life since 9/11,” he said, according to ABC News. “If you want to know what we felt like in 9/11 after the tragedy, it’s what you’re seeing around New York City, is everybody together. This is insane.”
The Bronx rapper also spoke about the countless gatherings and watch parties popping up across the city as fans rally behind the team.
“I’ve got a friend, he puts a screen in his backyard. He said the whole neighborhood, people he’s never talked to in his life are walking through his house, opening the refrigerator,” Joe said. “This is like, unbelievable.”
Fat Joe expanded on those thoughts during a special episode of Joe and Jada. As Jadakiss reflected on the atmosphere surrounding the Knicks’ run, saying, “The city is linking up and turning it into beautiful chaos, man,” Joe chimed in with his own take on the citywide excitement.
“They making Mamdani look like the king of Belair, huh? They saying crime is down. Nobody’s arguing. The city’s just all together, unified like it’s never been.”
With the Knicks just two wins away from a championship, the team’s success has transformed New York into a citywide celebration, bringing together fans from all walks of life.
The Knicks strengthened their grip on the NBA Finals on Friday with a thrilling 105-104 victory over the Spurs, taking a commanding 2-0 series lead as the action shifts to Madison Square Garden for Game 3.
Adding even more attention to the highly anticipated matchup, President Donald Trump is expected to attend the game, bringing another layer of intrigue to an already electric atmosphere in New York.
Former Knicks star Amar’e Stoudemire believes the crowd will embrace the president’s appearance.
“Get a standing ovation,” Stoudemire predicted when discussing what kind of reception Trump could receive at Madison Square Garden.
With the Knicks chasing their first NBA championship in decades and the city fully rallying behind the team, all eyes will be on MSG as New York looks to continue its remarkable Finals run.
