Jennifer Lopez wants fans to know that the public perception of her doesn’t always match reality.
The actress and singer, who stars in the upcoming Office Romance, opened up about misconceptions surrounding her personality during a joint interview with Brett Goldstein for The New York Times. In the film, Lopez plays Jackie Cruz, the tough and determined CEO and president of an airline company. When asked whether the public sees that strong-willed character as her real-life personality, Lopez didn’t hold back.
“It makes you crazy because you’re like, can you just relax? I’m fine. I don’t bite — until I know you better,” Lopez said.
She continued, “But I don’t bite, and I don’t yell, and I’m not an unkind person.”
Lopez also shared that being misunderstood has often reduced her in the public eye to what she described as a “two-dimensional character.”
Goldstein backed up his co-star’s comments, praising Lopez as both “brilliant” and a genuinely “nice person.” He recalled that the pair were laughing during their very first Zoom meeting, which helped make working together a smooth and enjoyable experience.
The discussion comes months after a viral moment involving Lopez and Cole Walliser at the 2026 Golden Globes. The brief interaction sparked online debate after Lopez quickly posed for photos and moved on.
Walliser later addressed the situation in an Instagram Reel, saying he never viewed the encounter negatively and didn’t find Lopez rude. According to him, she was simply focused on getting through the event as the red carpet was wrapping up.
“She was down to business. The carpet was closed. She was ready to go inside. She knew exactly what she was going to do,” he explained.
Fans can catch Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein in Office Romance, which is currently holding the top spot as the number one movie on Netflix.
