Lionel Richie Speaks Out After Onstage Health Scare: “I’m Doing Well”

Lionel Richie has officially returned to the stage after a health scare forced him to postpone two shows, and the music icon is expressing gratitude to fans for their support. Following the opening night of his summer tour, which was cut short due to his health concerns and a doctor-advised break, Richie made his comeback with an emotional message celebrating his recovery and appreciation for his audience.

“Thank you for every message, every kind word, and for all your love,” Richie wrote on Instagram alongside photos from his recent performances, according to Us Weekly. “I’m doing well, and I’m grateful for all of you.”

The 77-year-old singer also confirmed that he had resumed his Sing a Song All Night Long tour with Earth, Wind & Fire, sharing his excitement after returning to the stage. “Pittsburgh and Detroit were an absolute joy. The energy, the dancing, the faces in the crowd… we made real memories together. See you in Toronto… let’s party all night long.”

The update marks Lionel Richie’s first personal message since a concerning medical incident interrupted the opening night of his tour in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The singer has not shared details about the condition that caused him to step away, nor has he provided any information about a diagnosis or treatment.

Richie’s return comes after fans expressed concern following his sudden departure from the June 24 concert. While performing “Dancing on the Ceiling,” the Grammy winner appeared to become dizzy and sat down during the song, telling the audience, “When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your ass down.” He continued performing long enough to sing “Three Times a Lady” before stepping away for an intermission.

About 40 minutes later, saxophonist Dino Soldo came back onstage with an update for the crowd, saying, “Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well. He won’t be able to continue. Additional information will be available.”

Following the incident, Live Nation postponed Richie’s upcoming performances in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio. The promoter explained that the decision was made “under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health,” adding that Richie was “heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back performing for his fans.”

Reports also suggested that Richie was taken to a hospital as a precaution. Earth, Wind & Fire drummer John Paris later said the singer appeared to be “a little dehydrated,” though no official reason for the health scare has been confirmed.

Shortly before Richie returned to the stage, his former wife Brenda Harvey-Richie offered reassurance to fans on social media, writing, “Lionel is OK and will be back on the stage.”
