Tinashe turned heads in a Los Angeles parking lot this week after grabbing a sledgehammer and taking it to a white BMW as part of a bold promotion for her new single, “Crash Out.”
The eye-catching stunt was used to celebrate the release of “Crash Out,” which dropped on Thursday (July 16), while also announcing her eighth studio album, Popstar, set to arrive on Sept. 25 through Nice Life/Atlantic Records.
On Wednesday (July 15), content creator Christian Vierling shared a video showing Tinashe repeatedly smashing the BMW with a sledgehammer while letting out grunts with each swing.
“I have no problem with this,” Vierling said in the clip. “I respect what you’re doing.”
“You wanna get a couple hits in?” Tinashe responded. Vierling happily accepted the offer before asking the singer to record a video for him to send to his girlfriend.
Vierling managed to smash the passenger-side headlight and side mirror, later telling Tinashe that letting out his built-up frustration “felt really good.”
“Is that why you do that?” Vierling asked.
“Exactly,” Tinashe responded. “That’s a good crash out right there.”
“Crash Out” serves as the second single from Popstar, following “Too Easy,” a track in which Tinashe seemingly took aim at artists she believes have drawn inspiration from her signature style.
The upcoming album follows her 2024 project, Quantum Baby, which included the viral hit “Nasty.” The song peaked at No. 61 on the Billboard Hot 100, earning Tinashe her first appearance on the chart since her 2014 breakout single “2 On” featuring ScHoolboy Q.
