Post Malone Appears to Hint at a Comeback to Rap Following His Extended Country Music Era

After stepping away from hip-hop for the past few years, it appears Post Malone is making his way back to the genre.

In a video posted on social media on Thursday (July 16), the chart-topping artist is seen enjoying a new track in the studio that echoes the sound of his earlier music. The song marks a noticeable shift from his last two projects, the rock and pop-influenced Austin and the full-fledged country album F-1 Trillion.

Back in April, Post shared a photo revealing that his eagerly awaited new album, The Eternal Buzz, will be a double project featuring 20 tracks on each disc.

The 31-year-old artist revealed during a Twitch stream in Dec. 2025—the same broadcast where he hurt his wrist while attempting a backflip—that he was aiming to release two albums this year.

“Chances are, chat, we are getting two albums in 2026,” he said, adding, “If everything goes my way.”

When a fan recently asked whether he would return to rap, Post didn’t dismiss the idea, fueling speculation that a comeback to the genre could be on the horizon.

“We’ve been in the studio, working very, very hard, and there’s a lot of awesome fucking shit, and that’s all I can say.”

In May, Malone revealed that he was delaying a handful of early dates on his Big Ass Stadium Tour so he could focus on completing the album.

“The truth is, I promised y’all beautiful people new music, and I don’t have the time to finish it before tour starts,” he explained. “We ain’t ready for tour just yet, so I’m making the decision to push the tour back about three weeks to get this music done.”

Post also dropped another hint about revisiting his rap roots, saying he hasn’t forgotten about “ole Stoney,” a nod to his 2016 debut album Stoney, which featured breakout hits like “White Iverson” and “Congratulations.”

“And to a lot of little stinkers that think I’ve forgotten about ole Stoney, I haven’t,” he wrote.
