What initially sounded like a proud father moment has now evolved into a much more complicated family dispute. Just days after Chingy spoke highly of his youngest son, actor Isaiah Russell-Bailey, during an appearance on The Jason Lee Show, the 19-year-old is pushing back, saying the rapper’s public account of their relationship does not reflect his own experience.
According to TheGrio, Russell-Bailey finally addressed the situation Thursday (Sept. 10) after initially choosing to remain silent. “What my biological father shared is not an accurate representation of our relationship,” he wrote, explaining that he took several days to respond so he could carefully express what he wanted to say.
The issue began when Chingy told Jason Lee that he has four children and identified Russell-Bailey as his youngest son. “Actually, my youngest son, Isaiah, is a big actor out here in California,” he said, highlighting his son’s work with Disney and other projects. Russell-Bailey has appeared in Family Reunion, Raven’s Home, S.W.A.T., as well as films such as We Can Be Heroes and Crater.
Russell-Bailey initially addressed the matter indirectly by sharing a tribute to his mother, Brittany Perry-Russell. “Everything I am, I owe to the woman who has always been there,” he wrote. He also liked comments that questioned Chingy’s involvement in his upbringing and acting career.
As speculation continued to mount, Chingy stepped forward to defend his side of the story. Speaking to Hollywood Unlocked, he said Russell-Bailey knows the nature of their relationship and stressed that not everything a father does for his child has to be shared publicly. Chingy also explained that he wanted his son to establish a career independent of his father’s name while maintaining that he had been willing to provide support whenever needed.
Russell-Bailey, however, directly challenged that version of events. He spoke of “years of absence and neglect,” arguing that public declarations of love or support cannot erase his memories of who was actually there throughout his childhood. He also pushed back against claims that his mother influenced him to have negative feelings toward Chingy.
“A parent doesn’t have to turn a child against someone who was already absent,” he wrote. “My feelings are my own, and they come from my own experiences.”
The actor was especially adamant about defending his mother’s contribution to his career. Russell-Bailey explained that he and Perry-Russell made sacrifices together as they pursued acting, pushing back against any narrative that credits someone else for opportunities or work he says they navigated without that person’s involvement.
At the same time, Russell-Bailey stressed that he does not want the disagreement to become an ongoing public battle. He said he has no intention of exposing private family matters just to prove a point online, but insisted that he would not let anyone speak on his behalf or use his name to create what he described as “a false picture of a nonexistent relationship for clout.”
“I’ve said what I needed to say, and I won’t be speaking on this again,” he concluded. Chingy had yet to publicly respond to Russell-Bailey’s latest statement.
