Ashanti is hoping to expand her family with husband Nelly, two years after welcoming their son, KK.
The R&B singer and star of Peacock’s Nelly and Ashanti: We Belong Together opened up about motherhood and her plans for having more children during a recent episode of SiriusXM’s Bevelations.
Ashanti and Nelly welcomed their first child together in July 2024, marking Nelly’s third biological child. The rapper is also the legal guardian of his niece and nephew, whose mother, his late sister Jackie Donahue, died from leukemia in 2005.
During an episode of Bevelations, host Bevy Smith told Ashanti that actress Hilary Swank is expecting her third child at 52. In response, the singer admitted she wasn’t sure she would be willing to wait that long.
“So, when I was younger, obviously, I wanted to have like six. I told him that, too. That’s not happening. But I definitely want a minimum of one more because I feel like KK needs a sibling,” Ashanti said.
The Grammy winner also revealed that she plans to go on tour next year but might be able to keep a pregnancy under wraps during the first four months.
“I’m calculating things to try and make things work because I want my child to have my undivided attention,” she explained. “If I’m on tour, the tour has my undivided attention, so it’s like I want to be able to do what I feel is best for each situation.”
Expanding their family has been a topic of discussion between Ashanti and Nelly since the first season of their reality show. The series has been renewed for a second season, which is scheduled to return on Nov. 19.
