Chris Brown Escapes Prison Time in Case Involving Producer He Struck With a Bottle

Chris Brown has avoided prison time in his assault case involving a producer he struck with a bottle inside a London nightclub in 2023.

According to a BBC News report published on Monday (Oct. 26), Brown received an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, and was ordered to pay $2,000 in prosecution costs. The R&B singer will not serve time behind bars unless he commits another offense during the 12-month suspension period.

Brown’s co-defendant, rapper HoodyBaby (born Omololu Akinlolu), who also took part in the attack, received a four-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months. He will also avoid serving time in prison.

During the hearing, Judge Tony Baumgartner reprimanded Breezy for striking the producer with a bottle inside a crowded nightclub. He described the attack as “plainly dangerous” and said it “carried the risk of delivering a more sustained injury than was ultimately sustained.”

“This was not planned violence. It was nevertheless serious violence by two people in a crowded nightclub,” Judge Baumgartner added.

At Monday’s hearing, the court viewed three segments of surveillance footage captured inside Tape nightclub on the night of the assault. The incident lasted less than 20 seconds, but the footage showed Brown striking the victim four times with a tequila bottle, including twice on the head.

Brown arrived at and departed from the courthouse wearing sunglasses, a black leather jacket, black pants, a white turtleneck, and a black mask that covered nearly his entire face. He also wore a black baseball cap and did not address reporters.

Following his court appearance, however, CB took to his Instagram Story to share a video of himself looking out of his car window before giving a thumbs-up gesture, seemingly reassuring fans that he was doing okay.

As previously reported, Breezy and HoodyBaby both pleaded guilty at Southwark Crown Court in London in July of 2026 for their roles in the attack on producer Abraham “Abe” Diaw at Tape nightclub in Mayfair in February of 2023. Initially charged on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, both men ultimately pleaded guilty to affray, an offense involving violent or threatening behavior that causes another person to fear for their safety.

Brown and HoodyBaby were arrested in May of 2026 after the singer arrived in the U.K. for his Breezy Bowl XX Tour. Prosecutors alleged that Brown struck Diaw over the head with a bottle, while HoodyBaby punched him in the back of the head. A $16 million civil lawsuit Diaw filed over the incident was reportedly dropped by Diaw in June of 2025.
