Ashley Walters, who portrayed Dushane Hill in the Netflix series Top Boy, has finally addressed a question fans have been asking since the show’s finale aired in 2023.
Spoilers ahead.
In the series finale, Sully is sitting inside his car when a mysterious figure walks past as he turns the ignition and fires a single shot, killing him. The shooter’s identity has remained a secret ever since.
During the latest episode of reWORKING with Tim Campbell, Walters revealed that keeping the killer’s identity hidden was a deliberate choice. He explained that he and Kane Robinson, who played Sully, pushed for the decision while working on the show’s final edit.
“It was me and Kane that made the ending that way, because they had the whole killing and we went in the edit and we was like, ‘Nah, don’t tell people who did it, cut it out, who did it,’” he said.
Walters explained that the decision was made to keep fans talking about Top Boy long after the series ended.
“It’s because we want the show to live on, because we’re never going to do it again,” he said. “So, we want the show to live on, and that is the most hated question now, bro. ‘Who killed Sully?’”
After sharing some background on the decision, Walters casually revealed the answer, saying, “But yeah, Jaq.” That confirms Jacqueline “Jaq” Lawrence, played by Jasmine Jobson, was the person who killed Sully.
