UPDATE 5/28, 8:00 p.m. ET: Reports that Tom Hardy had been fired from MobLand have now been debunked.
Earlier this month, Puck News reported that the British actor, who portrays gangster Harry Da Souza, would not be returning to the hit series due to alleged disputes with executive producer Jez Butterworth and 101 Studios.
However, Variety has since reported that those claims are inaccurate. In fact, conversations are reportedly underway about bringing Hardy back for a potential third season.
“Tom was not fired, the door is not closed for Season 3 and things are being worked through creatively,” a source told the outlet.
The series, which also stars Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren, is produced by 101 Studios and MTV Entertainment Studios. Guy Ritchie serves as an executive producer and has directed several episodes.
“I’m sure Guy is probably pushing David Glasser to make it work,” another source told Variety. “Guy likes working with Tom.”

Tom Hardy was previously reported to be exiting MobLand after allegedly experiencing tensions behind the scenes.
According to earlier reports, Hardy completed filming for Season 2 in March but was not expected to return because of disagreements involving executive producer Jez Butterworth and 101 Studios.
The Paramount+ crime drama has been a major success, drawing more than 26 million views during its debut season. At the time, reports suggested the production would move forward without Hardy despite the show’s popularity.
Puck News initially reported Hardy’s alleged departure, claiming there were creative disagreements as well as concerns about his punctuality on set. The report also alleged that Hardy frequently offered script notes and became frustrated with the increased focus on other cast members. Despite the speculation, Season 2 remains on track to premiere this year.
Hardy stars as Harry Da Souza, a fixer for the Harrigan crime family. His castmates include Pierce Brosnan, Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Toby Jones, and Helen Mirren. Hardy’s production company was also involved in producing the series. A third season has not yet been officially announced.
This wouldn’t be the first time Hardy has been linked to on-set tensions. He previously had a well-documented clash with Charlize Theron during the filming of Mad Max: Fury Road. Theron later recalled that they “fuckin’ went at it” while making the movie.
Reflecting on the experience in a 2020 interview with The New York Times, Hardy admitted he regretted parts of his behavior.
“I think in hindsight, I was in over my head in many ways. The pressure on both of us was overwhelming at times,” he said. “What she needed was a better, perhaps more experienced, partner in me. That’s something that can’t be faked. I’d like to think that now that I’m older and uglier, I could rise to that occasion.”
